Birdwatching in the Wetlands around Brasov area
Explore the protected area Dumbravita, Sit Natura 2000 and Sit Ramsar – wetlands of international importance, where you will admire and explore various habitats: water surface areas, emersed vegetation (rush-bed, bulrush), eutrophic marshes, grasslands, meadows, brooks, muddy grounds.
This area was declared locally, nationally and internationally protected area due to the fact that more than 200 species of birds have been identified here along with their specific habitats.
Here is a selection of birds that are really important for the preservation of this are as well as for birdwatchers: Pygmy Cormorant (Mycrocarbo pygmeus), Litten Bittern (Ixobrychus minutus), Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea), Night Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax), Squacco Heron (Ardeola ralloides), Great White Egret (Casmerodius albus), Little Egret (Egretta garzetta), Black Stork (Ciconia nigra), Garganey (Anas qurquedula), Ferruginous Duck (Aythya nyroca), Marsh Harrier (Circus aeruginosus), Little Crake (Porzana parva), Whiskered Tern (Chlidonias hybridus), Black Tern (Chlidonias niger), Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis), Savi’s Warbler (Locustella luscinioides), Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus), Marsh Warbler (Acrocephalus palustris), Great Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus arundinaceus), Penduline Tit (Remiz pendulinus), all of these species being included in several national and international conventions and directives on wild life preservation (ex: EU Birds Directive, annex I).
