Explore the old-grow forest
The old-growth forests consist in those areas where the forest can be found in its pure form, having attained great age without interference from humans. In these areas trees are dying of old age, they fall, break and dry out, while the dead wood remains there as well to nurture the ecosystem for the future generations. If these ecosystems die out, the natural evolution of a thousand years is lost.
This program’s purpose is to offer participants the possibility to walk through these woods located in within Brasov area, on certain trails and discover the various stages of tree growth, from saplings to the oldest trees in the woods, including dead wood or tore down wood, strange shaped trees, and various types of tinder.
Visits can include: oak or holm oak woods (Quercus robur, Quercus petraea), beech woods (Fagus sylvatica), fir woods (Abies alba), Norway Spruce woods (Picea abies), where you can trees with more than 1.5 – 2 m in diameter. In order to be able to see these trees and/or old-growth forests, participants will have to walk long distances, occasionally on elevated ramps which require a good physical condition.
